What is a whistleblower?
A whistleblower is an employee who alerts a relevant authority to the existence of illegal, immoral or illegitimate conduct or practices committed by other employees of the business or organisation. Recent large scale international and local corporate collapses and corporate wrongdoing have led to whistleblowers being perceived as an invaluable means of fraud detection and a deterrent for those contemplating internal fraud. Allowing whistleblowers to safely speak out also promotes honest, efficient and compliant workplace cultures and signifies a meaningful commitment to good corporate governance on behalf of senior management.
